A new wildland fire, south of Wenatchee began Sunday afternoon. The Squilchuck Road Fire forced residents along the west end of Connery Road and the north end of Jim Smith to evacuate overnight. An evacuation level two 'get set’ advisory was given to people living along Squilchuck Road.

Fire managers say the fire’s proximity to the Wenatchee Heights area means that area will be monitored closely.

No structures have been lost in the fire that as of Sunday night was estimated at 25 acres and growing. It's burning in brush, sage, and timber. The fire cause is currently under investigation.

Real time updates are issued on the alert system Everbridge and posted to the Chelan County Emergency Management Facebook page.

A suggestion to remain vigilante and be cautious from Washington State Commissioner of Public Lands Hilary Franz who on a visit to the Deer Park Airbase on Friday said that nature is still in charge and wildland fire continues to be a real threat this time of year.

Franz says education and outreach about the dangers of fire are increasingly important since 90 percent of fires in our region are people-caused.

Franz credited an increase in air resources in attacking fires this year across North Central Washington and the Inland Northwest and the work of local firefighters.
