Front Street Park in Leavenworth at 820 Front St. was vandalized at around 11:30 p.m., Sunday, December 22, and Chelan County Sheriff’s detectives want your assistance in identifying the suspect.
The driver of a pick-up truck was videotaped by witnesses spinning donuts on the grass in the park, damaging a 90’ by 50’ area. No one was injured during the incident.
The driver appears to be a white male, 20 to 30 years of age. He has not been identified.
Chelan County Sheriff’s Chief Seth Buhler says anyone having information about the suspect driver of a 2024 silver Toyota Tundra with Texas Lic# TTR1528 is asked to share what they know, confidentially, on the Sheriff’s Office 'Submit a Tip' form, on-line here or by calling 509-667-6845.
Sheriff’s detectives are attempting to locate the suspect vehicle.
Chief Buhler says there is probable cause for the arrest of the driver for reckless driving and malicious mischief.
The City of Leavenworth said on Facebook, "The lawn area of Front Street Park is CLOSED temporarily. We apologize for any inconvenience and appreciate your understanding as we work to restore the usability of our downtown park."
"We would like to take a moment and extend our heartfelt gratitude for the outpouring of support from the community after the incident that occurred this weekend that left Front Street Park unusable, unsafe, and severely damaged. Your kindness and offers to assist mean a lot to us," the city added. "Our dedicated parks team is on it and will be working hard this week to restore the park as conditions allow. We do appreciate the numerous offers to help and are committed to reopening the lawn area of the park to the public as soon as feasible."
