The city of Chelan has formally approved a grant from the Rural Counties Tax Funds for capacity upgrades to the Washington Street Booster Pump Station in east Chelan.
Chelan Mayor Erin McCardle and the county have signed the Chelan County Cascade Public Infrastructure Fund Grant Interlocal Agreement.
As part of the agreement, the county passed on to the city $300,000 from a public infrastructure fund to match an identical amount from the city for water system improvements.
"It will provide domestic water and fire flow to the Apple Blossom Center area and also to Anderson Road where Chelan Valley Housing Trust is planning to do a future affordable housing project," said Chelan County Economic Services Director Ron Cridlebaugh in announcing to the county commissioners, the cooperative agreement between the city and county.
"There's a lot of important projects waiting on that water, such as the $11 million EMS facility at the hospital," Mayor McCardle said in a September interview. "There's two or three affordable housing projects that are needing water out there as well. By the city upgrading the Washington Booster Pump Station we can now get those projects moving forward."
