A drug trafficking group has been taken off Chelan County streets by the Columbia River Drug Task Force following a six month investigation that resulted in the arrest of three gang-related suspects, Kevin Gaona, Jessie Pina and Luis Garcia.
Chelan County Sheriff’s Chief Ryan Moody says the trio is alleged to have been dealing in large quantities of highly potent fentanyl, and well as large amounts of methamphetamine.
"Deadly fentanyl, often mixed with xylazine," said Moody in a news release. "Over the course of the investigation, the task force obtained information that this type of potent fentanyl has been responsible for at least 10 overdose deaths in the Wenatchee area within the last two weeks alone."
With the assistance of the East Cascade SWAT Team the drug task force served multiple search warrants in both Chelan and Douglas Counties that led to seizures of both fentanyl and methamphetamines as well as at least 10 firearms to include an AR-15.
"These firearms were in the hands of dangerous gang members and drug dealers who were not allowed to possess them as they are convicted felons," Moody added.
Gaona, Pina and Garcia were all arrested during the search warrant service and booked into the Chelan County Regional Justice Center, with additional charges
pending as the investigation continues.
It's reported that 36 overdose deaths have occurred in Chelan and Douglas counties this year. There were 19 drug overdose deaths recorded in the two counties in 2023.
