Chelan teen arrested for alleged gas station store robbery

NEW INFORMATION - Chelan County Sheriff’s detectives have arrested a 16-year old Chelan boy for his alleged involvement in the November 25 robbery at the Chelan Safeway gas station store at 316 N. Columbia St. in Chelan.

"I would give our detectives kudos," said Chelan County Sheriff Mike Morrison. "We now have a suspect in our robbery that took place up in Chelan."

The Chelan teen was taken into custody Tuesday and was booked into  the Chelan County Juvenile Justice Center.

Details of how investigators tracked and arrested the teen were not immediately disclosed.

Earlier reporting was that the hold-up occurred at mid-morning in broad daylight. A short-slim built individual wearing a mask and sunglasses walks into the Chelan Safeway gas station store. He attempted to buy a few items but his debit card was invalid. He then placed his hand inside his shirt and demanded that the employee give him cash.

The clerk told investigating Chelan County Sheriff’s deputies that they believed the suspect had a knife, although they never actually saw a weapon. Cash was handed over and the robber left the store on foot.

Sheriff’s Chief Ryan Moody said shortly after the incident that deputies searched the area and found some evidence.

Criminal charges against the youth will be determined by Chelan County Prosecutor Robert Sealby.
