Snow accumulates during a past winter on a city street in Chelan.
The city of Chelan has renewed its emphasis on land use code compliance, with the hiring of former city councilman Chris Baker as the city's Code Compliance Officer.
Baker told KOZI that he's focused on public education and making sure citizens know land use laws.
"Right now we're focusing on streets, said Baker. "It's real important that people get boats, RVs and trailers off of the streets. Boats and trailers are never allowed on the streets anyway. It just causes a lot of trouble for the snow plows."
"We're collaborating with the (Chelan County) Sheriff's Office to get some vehicles out of the way that people aren't willing to move on their own," Baker added.
Important to the city’s code compliance education campaign is the assistance of sheriff’s deputies.
Sgt. Rob Huddleston says the focus will be on, "Cars that have expired licenses, that have been parked for an extended period of time and boats on trailers."
"I'll be working with code enforcement, hopefully doing more education than towing," said Huddleston. "Trying to educate people, letting them know that they can not have them (cars, boats, travel trailers and trailers) on the right-of-way and to find an alternate place for them."
