Chelan High School musicians selected to perform at prestigious event

Ten Chelan High School musicians have been selected to participate in the Western International Band Clinic (WIBC), an audition honor band event that brings together outstanding young musicians from across the country.

High school Band Director Stephen Burdick says Eli Becerril, Jayden Burdick and Kole Nelson (trumpet), Chloe Desgroseillier and Austin Zimmer (tenor sax), Hailey Fogelson (clarinet), Gabriel Guerrero (trombone), David Kelly (oboe), Jonah Simmons (french horn), and Tristyn Tilbury (bass clarinet), were chosen to join an elite group of musicians who will perform under the direction of renowned conductors at the upcoming WIBC event.

"This honor highlights these students’ dedication, skill, and passion for music, and reflects the strength of the band program at Chelan High School," said Burdick.

The Western International Band Clinic is an annual event that gathers talented high school and university musicians for a weekend of intensive rehearsals, workshops, and performances. Participants have the opportunity to learn from experienced conductors, composers, soloists, and play alongside their peers in a professional concert setting.

Guest composers and conductors for 2024 are Brian Balmages, Randall D. Standridge, Robert Sheldon, Kevin Day, Patrick Sheridan, and Dr. Tim Lautzenheiser. Featured guest soloists are world renowned trumpeter Allen Vizzutti and the Grammy nominated Mariachi Sol De Mexico De Jose Hernandez. This year’s clinic will take place from November 22-25 in SeaTac.

“I'm incredibly proud of our student musicians for auditioning and being selected to participate in this prestigious event,” said Stephen Burdick, Band Director at Chelan High School. “It’s a testament to their hard work and dedication, and we know they will represent our school and community with excellence.”
