A citizen informed Chelan County Sheriff's deputies that they believed a 12-year-old Chelan youth was allegedly in the possession of a stolen firearm.
Sheriff’s Chief Ryan Moody reported late Friday that the officers then searched a Chelan home where they recovered the weapon from the child.
No details were shared on the type of weapon that was found or why and how the youngster had it in their possession.
Moody says the Sheriff’s Office is grateful to the citizens who brought this situation to light, allowing deputies to remove a dangerous weapon from the community without incident.
Moody reminds citizens that any information related to firearms or criminal activity can be reported confidentially through the Sheriff’s Submit A Tip form here.
"Ensuring the safety of our community, especially its children, remains one of our highest priorities," said Moody.
Deputies are working closely with community organizations and local schools to promote firearm safety education.
