Chelan County elects new commissioner; Chelan creates fund for road projects



State Senator Brad Hawkins is now Chelan County Commissioner-elect, representing the third district, succeeding commissioner Tiffany Gering who opted not to run for another term. Hawkins received 66% of the Chelan County vote.


Chelan County Commissioner Kevin Overbay ran unopposed as did Douglas County Commissioner Dan Sutton. Randy Agnew is the new Douglas County Commissioner-elect.


State Rep. Keith Goehner of Dryden is the new 12th district state Senator, and will replace Hawkins in the legislature. Goehner beat Jim Mayhew 56% to 44%.


Former Chelan County Sheriff Brian Burnett will replace Goehner in the state house in January. Burnett outdistanced Heather Koellen 53% to 47%.


Rep.-elect Burnett joins Rep. Mike Steele of Chelan who won re-election to represent the 12th district. Rep. Steele beat Daniel Scott 64% to 35%.


In the 7th district, your new state lawmakers are Hunter Abell and Andrew Engell, succeeding Jacqueline Macomber and Joel Kretz.


The city of Chelan Transportation Benefit District was created with 52% support. It will add .3% to the city sales tax to assist in funding future transportation projects.


Statewide, Bob Ferguson is the Governor-elect, Nick Brown the new Attorney General, Dave Upthegrove is State Lands Commissioner and Patty Kuderer is the next Insurance Commissioner.


Retaining their seats is Lt. Governor Denny Heck, Chris Reykdal as state schools’ chief, State Auditor Pat McCarthy, and Treasurer Mike Pellicciotti.


Congresswoman Kim Schrier has won re-election to another two year term representing the 8th district.


Michael Baumgartner is the new member of congress representing the 5th district, replacing the outgoing Cathy McMorris-Rogers.


Senator Maria Cantwell has won re-election.
