Chelan County Commissioner-elect Brad Hawkins held the first of three days of “Listening Sessions” with county officials and public stakeholders at the Chelan County Courthouse on Wednesday.
The new commissioner, representing district 3, is hearing from county department employees, elected officials and their staff and citizens as part of his transition from state senator to county commissioner.
Hawkins was elected to the Washington State House of Representatives in 2012 and to the State Senate in 2016. Prior to being elected to the Legislature, Brad served for 10 years on local school boards, including the North Central Educational Service District and Eastmont School District.
“I always learn from listening and look forward to connecting with county departments and community groups to better prepare for taking office in January,” said Hawkins. "I’m eager to connect with each department and to learn as much as I can about their goals and challenges.”
Hawkins says he'll suggest to his colleagues on the county commission to hold public work group sessions on county issues and potential legislation for the commissioners and county staff with select county stakeholders to really do a deep dive into the county's more pressing issues," Hawkins told KOZI.
Hawkins is dedicating Friday, December 6 for listening sessions with public stakeholder groups. These meetings will take place in the County Commission’s Meeting Room 1 at 400 Douglas Street in Wenatchee. To schedule an appointment on December 6, contact bradhawkinsforcommissioner@gmail.com.
Hawkins plans future listening sessions throughout his service as Commissioner, including regular visits to communities throughout Chelan County.
Hawkins added that through the listening sessions, "Hopefully within three-to-six months I'm in a position to make an immediate impact in district 3."
Chelan County District Court Judge Jon Volyn will administer the Oath of Office to Hawkins and other county officials re-elected or elected by the November general election. The event will be at 9 a.m. on Monday, Dec. 30, on the steps inside the historic Chelan County Courthouse.
