"It's been busy," said outgoing Chelan County Commissioner Tiffany Gering on her final appearance on Monday with Jeff Conwell on KOZI Community Connection. "Just trying to wrap up projects and handle any ongoing issue from constituents."

Gering and her colleagues are sharpening their pencil and placing finishing touches on balancing the Chelan County checkbook for the coming year.

The daunting task continued with a budget workshop Monday afternoon, ahead of an 11:30 a.m., Tuesday public hearing on the proposed budget.

The latest math, following the commissioners' workshop, was to take $4.39 million from the county savings account to balance the budget, as it's currently written.

The commissioners heading into the workshop were staring at a $5.5 million deficit between projected costs of public services and estimated tax revenues in 2025.

Ahead of the end of her term at the end of the month, Gering says the Stehekin Community Plan remains on the table.

"That was put on pause with the Pioneer Fire, but we're going to be picking back up in January," Gering said on Monday. "We've still been working with the consultant and all of the constituents that live there. There's a lot that's been happening behind the scenes."

Also on Gering's final to-do list is working on a solution to rid large 'woody debris' from Lake Chelan.

"We're just working with the PUD and Department of Fish and Wildlife to figure out how to get the work done so we are making Lake Chelan a much safer place to recreate for everyone that lives here and visits," Gering added.

Tuesday’s budget hearing will be in the Board of County Commissioners’ chambers, 400 Douglas St. in Wenatchee. Citizens can participate via Zoom, with a link on the commissioners’ webpage.

The final Chelan County 2025 budget will be posted to the county website www.co.chelan.wa.us after the financial document is adopted.
