[7/21/16] Fatal Hit And Run Driver Identified

July 21, 2016 Update:
On July 20, 2016 Chelan County Sheriff’s Office Detectives assisted by Douglas County Sheriff’s Office Deputies executed a search warrant in the 900 block of Maple Street in Bridgeport, Washington after identifying a suspect in the July 16, 2016 hit and run fatality collision on Apple Acres Road in Chelan County.
The suspected driver of the involved pickup has been identified as 21 year old Jovany Lopez-Maciel of Bridgeport. Mr. Lopez-Maciel is approximately 5’05” tall and weighs approximately 140 lbs. Mr. Lopez-Maciel has brown eyes and black hair, and has a tattoo on the left side of his neck.
Mr. Lopez-Maciel was not home during the execution of the search warrant and his current whereabouts is unknown. Mr. Lopez-Maciel may be in the company of his father Arturo Lopez-Pacheco. Mr. Lopez-Pacheco is 42 years of age, 6’00” tall and weighs approximately 165 lbs.
The Chelan County Sheriff’s Office has probable cause for the arrest of Mr. Lopez-Maciel, for the crimes of Vehicular Homicide, and Hit and Run resulting in a death. We are asking anyone with information related to the collision or Mr. Lopez-Maciel’s current location to call law enforcement.

Sheriff Brian Burnett reports on July 16, 2016 at about 8:22 PM, Rivercom Dispatch received a call of a vehicle vs. motorcycle accident 2.5 mile up Apple Acres Road from the Chelan Airport. It was soon discovered, it was actually a bicyclist and the reporting party stated the male was deceased. The vehicle that struck the bicyclist fled the scene and was described as possibly being a red truck with extensive damage to the front end and possibly a broken windshield. The bicyclist was identified as 50 year old, Gary Knowlton of Brewster. His next of Kin have been notified. While riding his bike at this location, the suspect vehicle, also going the same direction, struck Knowlton from behind.

July 18, 2016 Update:
Late yesterday afternoon (Sunday, July 17th) with assistance from Okanogan County Sheriff’s Office the suspect vehicle was located unoccupied and abandoned in an orchard. Chelan County Sheriff’s Deputies and Detectives responded to the scene. The vehicle was secured, impounded, and transported to a secure location in Wenatchee for further analysis. Detectives are actively working this investigation.
