[4/3/19] Consolidation Discussed by PUD Commission

At their meeting Monday, Chelan County PUD Commissioners heard results of the outreach effort hearing from customers about the proposed consolidation of services in the Olds Station area.

PUD staff spent more than a month speaking before city and community councils and civic organizations, holding open houses and gathering comment on its website. Almost 800 people commented on the PUD’s proposed relocation, more than half said it wouldn’t affect them. Almost two-thirds said they almost never visit the PUD’s downtown Wenatchee office, while one-fifth said they visit frequently or monthly, mostly to pay bills. However, PUD Project Manager David Lodge told commissioners there were concerns:

PUD Shared Services Director Dan Frazier traffic studies will help answer questions about what impacts a move would have on traffic in the area. But the nagging question of what happens to the old headquarters, and the downtown area if the move comes about may be closer to an answer thanks to Dave Williams, president of Music Theater of Wenatchee, which owns the Riverside Playhouse near the PUD’s headquarters:

And that was welcome news to PUD Commission President Garry Arsenault:

With that the decision on a move could be less than two weeks away, on April 15th, when the staff meets with the commission with further community feedback and a resolution asking for board approval of the consolidation plan.
