[11/14/16] What Initiative 1491 Means From The Law Enforcement Side

Initiative 1491 deals with access to firearms, and preventing, by court order, those with a high risk of harming themselves or others, from possessing them.

The Initiative reads:

This measure would allow police, family, or household members to obtain court orders temporarily preventing firearms access by persons exhibiting mental illness, violent or other behavior indicating they may harm themselves or others.

According to Preliminary results, the initiative is passing with an approval rate of roughly 71%.

But, what exactly that means for the law enforcement side of things, Chelan County Sheriff, Brian Burnett, is not certain…
