FOREST SERVICE PRESCRIBED BURN UPDATE:

Prescribed Fire Smoke Update: In Leavenworth, Cashmere, and the greater Wenatchee Valley area, smoke will continue to be noticeable throughout the day due to yesterday’s Forest restoration efforts in the Plain, WA area. To improve air quality for our communities, no new burns are planned in this area today. Any lingering smoke should be of short duration. For more information on smoke and health, please visit:http://wasmoke.blogspot.com/p/federal.html
Prescribed Fire: There are two #prescribedfire burns totaling 150 acres planned today.
1. 25 Mile: 40 acres across Lake Chelan from Manson, WA and northwest of Chelan, WA. Smoke is anticipated to disperse to the N throughout the day and will be highly visible from the Manson area.
2. Lower Tyee: 110 acres 3-7 miles NW of Ardenvoir, WA. Smoke is anticipated to disperse to the W throughout the day.
The 25 Mile burn is being conducted collaboratively as a part of the Forest Resiliency Burning Pilot Project passed by the Washington State Legislature in the spring of 2016. For more information on the Pilot visit:www.putfiretowork.org
After many years of fire exclusion, an ecosystem that needs periodic fire becomes unhealthy. Trees are stressed by overcrowding; fire-dependent species disappear; and flammable fuels build up and become hazardous. However, the right fire at the right place at the right time helps maintain healthy forests, communities and watersheds. For more on prescribed fire visit: waprescribedfire.org
