[10/20/16] PUD Meets To Discuss New Contract With Alcoa

Posted in Feature, Local Government & Meetings

Chelan County PUD Commissioners will meet in a Special Meeting this afternoon with the sole purpose of voting on a new proposed contract with Alcoa.

Chelan County PUD Commissioner, Gary Arseneault, says the new contract would replace a renewal contract that dates back to 2011…

102016 Alcoa 1 :26 “…here in chelan county.”

Fast forward four years to last year, when Arseneault says Alcoa announced they would be splitting their company into two separate segments…

102016 Alcoa 2 1:14 “…new entity going forward.”

As part of the 2011 contract, Arseneault adds, Alcoa agreed to purchase significant amounts of power from Chelan County PUD…

102016 Alcoa 3 :52 “…signed those checks.”

The new contract, Arseneault explains, would include stricter guidelines for Alcoa…

102016 Alcoa 4 :37 “…on the new alcoa.”

The PUD is also initiating trigger points that could require Alcoa to pay deferred funds to the PUD if they do not restart…

102016 Alcoa 5 :49 “…that they would restart.”

So, how exactly did we get to this point?

Arseneault says it comes down to supply and demand…

102016 Alcoa 6 1:12 “…agreement with alcoa.”
