Sheriff Brian Burnett reports two individuals were located deceased near their wrecked vehicle off of a USFS Road in the Derby Canyon area of west Chelan County Thursday morning. The subjects were reported “overdue” just after 10:00pm on Wednesday night when they had not returned home to Peshastin.

Ronald Schober had told family members he was going for “a drive” into the Derby Canyon area at around 11:00am Wednesday morning. Schober and a male friend were seen leaving the area in Schober’s yellow 2008 Jeep Rubicon AWD vehicle.

Search and rescue coordinators were advised of the overdue subjects at 6:45am Thursday morning when the two subjects still had not returned home. At 10:11am a search and rescue team checking the roads on snowmobiles located the vehicle approximately 75 yards down a steep embankment off of USFS Road 125. Both individuals were deceased at the scene.
