Manson: Modified Lock Down For Bear 9/10/2013

Manson School Officials Send Out Press Release regarding recent bear sighting:

We have received notice of a bear sighting in our community.  Several community members have reported seeing a bear at various locations in Manson.

If we receive report of bear activity near our schools we will go into a modified lock down.  This means outdoor student/staff activity is very limited and extra supervision is put into place.  Yesterday we briefly put a modified lock down into place as a precaution.

The District is in close communication with the Chelan County Sheriff’s Department.  Though bears are wild animals and unpredictable, authorities have advised that in all likelihood the bear will be scared of humans and in most cases avoid contact.  They are attracted to garbage and other available food items.

This notice is intended to communicate and inform our families of our school district’s response to this animal activity and to ask parents and community members to be aware of children’s outdoor activities during non-school hours.
