Twisp Fire Rating Could Improve Soon 8/30/2013
Okanogan County Fire District 6 hopes to see their efforts pay off for the Town of Twisp, after the Washington Surveying and Rating Bureau finishes an evaluation as part of its Protection Class Program.

The Program assigns a numerical grade that represents the fire suppression capabilities. That number helps insurance companies determine what rate to charge for residential and commercial insurance premiums. The ranking system is based on a scale of 1 to 10, where 1 is considered the most effective fire protection and 10 is the least.

Okanogan County District 6 Fire Chief, Don Waller, says the Washington Surveying and Rating Bureau will be evaluating the fire departments and water systems in both Winthrop and Twisp as well as District 6.

Fire District 6 is asking the towns to provide information about their water supply, including a ma of the water system that shows the hydrants and how fast the water can flow when it is needed in an emergency.

Fire District 6 covers an area of about 350 square miles- the largest fire district in OkanoganCounty. The towns of Twisp and Winthrop contract with the fire district for service.
