Council Adjusts Library Budget-Awards Bid 4/16/2013
The library construction bid was awarded at last Thursday’s Chelan City Council meeting- after an amendment was made to transfer additional funding into the library construction budget.
The amendment became necessary after bids came in that were $80-$100 thousand higher than anticipated, partly due to asbestos removal.
City of Chelan Administrator, Paul Schmidt, says in order to accept the low bid for construction, the council needed to add $80.
The council awarded the bid to Blodgett Construction, out of Wenatchee.
Schmidt says that although moving forward to accept the low bid was a recommendation from him- he still has concerns with the lack of wiggle room the transfer of funds will leave in the budget.
City officials plan to continue seeking grant funding and fundraising to cover the additional costs for construction- which is set to begin this Spring- with plans for the library to move into their new building by fall.
