Rat Bite Fever Cases Confirmed Locally 12/7/2012
The Chelan Douglas Health District is saying they have confirmed cases of Rat Bite Fever in both Chelan and Douglas county residents.
Never heard of Rat Bite Fever? Well, that’s because is a pretty rare disease. In fact, Mary Small, Public Information Officer for the Chelan Douglas Health District says this is a first for her too.
Small says that illness typically develops within three weeks of being exposed to an infected rodent and can at first appear to be symptoms of the flu.
Contaminated water sources and unpasteurized milk may also be considered possible health risks for rat bite fever.
If you would like more information on the bacterial disease, you can visit the Chelan Douglas county health district website by going to our website- and clicking on the rat bite fever link.
