Flood Watch 10/30/2012

THE FLOOD WATCH CONTINUES FOR

* A PORTION OF NORTH CENTRAL WASHINGTON...INCLUDING THE FOLLOWING COUNTIES...CHELAN...DOUGLAS AND OKANOGAN.

* THROUGH LATE WEDNESDAY NIGHT

* BETWEEN TUESDAY MORNING AND WEDNESDAY NIGHT...RAINFALL OF TWO INCHES OR MORE WILL FALL ALONG THE CASCADE CREST NEAR STEVENS PASS...WASHINGTON PASS AND STEHEKIN. THE BURN SCARS NEAR WENATCHEE HAVE A GOOD CHANCE OF RECEIVING A HALF INCH TO AN INCH OF ADDITIONAL RAINFALL.

* THE HEAVY RAIN WILL INCREASE THE POTENTIAL FOR MUD SLIDES AND DEBRIS FLOWS...ESPECIALLY OVER THE AREAS IMPACTED BY THE SUMMER WILDFIRES. SMALL CREEKS AND STREAMS WILL RISE MARKEDLY AND POTENTIALLY PRODUCE FLOODING AS WELL. THE LARGER MAIN-STEM RIVERS ARE NOT EXPECTED TO FLOOD...BUT RIVERS SUCH AS THE STEHEKIN RIVER HAVE ALREADY BEGAN TO SHOW SHARP RISES WITH THE RECENT RAINS. NEAR PLAIN...BOTH THE WHITE RIVER AND NASON CREEK ARE OF PARTICULAR CONCERN FOR FLOODING.

PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS...

A FLOOD WATCH MEANS THAT FLOODING IS POSSIBLE BUT NOT IMMINENT IN THE WATCH AREA. YOU SHOULD MONITOR FORECASTS AND BE ALERT FOR POSSIBLE FLOOD WARNINGS. THOSE LIVING IN AREAS PRONE TO FLOODING SHOULD BE PREPARED TO TAKE ACTION SHOULD FLOODING DEVELOP.

THIS INCLUDES THE FOLLOWING LOCATIONS...LEAVENWORTH...CASHMERE... ENTIAT...MANSON...PLAIN...MAZAMA...WINTHROP...METHOW...TWISP... CONCONULLY.
