Antoine Creek Wilde Fire Update 8/9/2012

State mobilization firefighting efforts on the stubborn 6,800 acre fire burning in Okanogan County is ramping down.   Fie managers say the Antoine Fire is now 90% contained and predict 100% containment today. The fire has not grown significantly for several days and state resources are being released to their home units.. handing fire management back over to local firefighters.

All evacuation notices have been lifted and fire crews have been concentrating on reinforcing control lines, mop-up and rehabilitation. Drivers should be prepared for   intermittent lane closures on Hwy 97 as the work continues.

The fire began in Chelan County last Sunday near the intersection of Antoine Creek Road and Apple Acres Road with explosive fire behaviour in its early stages as it spread into Okanogan County burning in grass, brush and timber.

First on the scene was Chelan Fire and Rescue… immediately recognizing the dangerous potential for a major fire a second alarm was sounded at 12:15 PM and it wasn’t long before a third alarm was sounded.
Late Sunday afternoon, at the request of Chelan County Fire District #7, State fire assistance was mobilized to support local firefighters working to contain the fire.  A Type II incident management team had been coordinating fire fighting efforts thru last evening when they officially handed management back to local firefighters.

Thank you to all responding fire fighters ….  State..  Regional  and Local
