The new speed limit signs are now in place on a two mile section of SR 150 between Manson and Chelan. Washington State Department of Transportation road crews installed the new signs early this week officially lowering the speed limit from 45 to 40 MPH.
Traffic Engineer David Kieninger said the Chelan City Council approved the lower speed limit after the DOT reversed an earlier recommendation to leave the speed limit at 45 MPH.
Along with the reduced speed limit, drivers will see other improvements along that stretch of roadway to improve pedestrian and bicycle safety. Signs warning of upcoming curves and a flashing beacon system that alerts driver of bicycles on the roadway are also being installed.
