HDCA/City Earn Outstanding Partnership 5/25/2012
The Historic Downtown Chelan Association (HDCA) and the City of Chelan were recognized for an “Outstanding Partnership” at the Excellence on Main Awards Ceremony, May 23 in Chelan.  The ceremony was held in conjunction with RevitalizeWA, Washington State’s Main Street and Preservation Conference.
The HDCA and the City of Chelan have established a supportive, on-going partnership for the purpose of maintaining and enhancing the charm, safety, livability, and history of Chelan’s downtown core.  Since its inception in 2008, the HDCA has had great support from the City of Chelan, and the relationship has grown into a partnership that benefits both entities, as well as the local community and visitors to the city.
With support from the City of Chelan, the HDCA has made significant strides toward its goals of successful promotions, downtown design continuity, and economic development.  In return for their unwavering encouragement of the HDCA, the City of Chelan has enjoyed enhanced communication and involvement with downtown businesses and community members.
The City of Chelan created the “Chelan Downtown Master Plan” and included HDCA.  This award winning revitalization plan gives HDCA the opportunity to provide input for projects impacting Chelan’s historic core before the city releases a building permit for exterior remodels, additions, and new construction.
“We are thrilled to present this award to the Historic Downtown Chelan Association and the City of Chelan who have demonstrated how working together can truly advance the goals of both entities for the benefit of residents and visitors alike.  Their list of accomplishments is already very impressive, and we know there are great things still to come,” says Sarah Hansen, Washington State Main Street Coordinator.
The Excellence on Main Awards, organized by the Washington State Main Street Program, recognizes communities, organizations, and individuals who are helping to achieve economic vitality and build sustainable communities through downtown revitalization and preservation.  Washington’s Main Street Program is housed in the Department of Archaeology and Historic Preservation and administered, under contract, by the Washington Trust for Historic Preservation.
