The Chelan City Council approved a rate resolution amendment that drops the General Facility Charges to reflect those of 2006 during their regular board meeting last week, in hopes of stimulating some local growth. The new rates were effective immediately, and will be revisited after a one year trial.
The 5-2 vote came after a rather lengthy and contentious discussion, and will lower hook up fees from nearly $5,200 to about $1,700 per ERU, or Equivalent Residential Unit in the downtown area.
Mayor Bob Goedde told us that the council’s decision to go back to 2006 rates, actually took the City back to the rates from nearly two decades ago.
Councilmember, Mike Cooney, disagreed, saying this is a matter of increasing growth in the city at a critical time.
The City Council will meet again at 6 PM on Thursday, April 26th in the City Council chambers on Johnson Ave, right here in Chelan."CLICK HERE" for Audio
