Here’s a heads-up on what could be further traffic delays in the Chelan area.

The Washington State Department of Transportation is making improvements to the intersection of State Route 150 and No-See-Um Road, between Manson and Chelan.

They will construct a roundabout at that intersection and widen SR 150 – but first Chelan County Public Utilities District must relocate electrical equipment in the area.

The PUD will be replacing existing electrical poles with new poles along SR 150 from Spader Bay to the No-See-Um intersection.

Work is planned to begin very soon. Once it starts, it will last 10 weeks- the schedule, of course, will depend on weather conditions.

Working hours will be Monday through Friday 7:30AM to 4:30PM. Traffic control will be in place during working hours, with one lane traffic and short roadway closures as needed.

Power outages may be needed as well as PUD crews perform their work- affected customers will be notified with details prior to any outage.

Four years ago, the legislature funded the roundabout project for planning and design. The final recommended alternative following that process was a roundabout.

It is (or was) scheduled for completion in 2017- that could be moved to 2018- but at this time, the schedule is for a new roundabout to be constructed at that intersection next summer.

Simultaneously DOT will be repaving 150 from Chelan to Manson.

So, if you were frustrated with this fall’s traffic delays on SR 150: “you ain’t seen nothin’ yet.”
