It was a beautiful night for football at Chiawana High School where we faced off against a very good Tri-Cities Prep football team and watched our 2016 playoff quest come to an abrupt end. The first quarter started with our defense mounting a great red zone stop and forcing TCP to turn the ball over on downs. The rest of the quarter was very back and forth with neither defense really giving up big chunks of yardage. TCP was able to put 6 points on the board with 1:14 remaining in the first quarter. The second quarter was much the same but a few special teams errors led to TCP scoring 3 more times. Our offense had a really difficult time dealing with the speed and physical play of TCP.
We went into halftime down 26-0 and had very little offense to show for the first half. We knew that we had our work cut out for us in second half. Defensive coach Meyers made some halftime adjustments that worked very well and we were able to hold TCP to zero third quarter points. The offense also made a few adjustments and we were able to get our running and passing game going. Unfortunately we were just unable to get the ball in the end zone. We had 3 great opportunities to put points on the board and make a game of it in the third quarter but we were just unable to capitalize on successful situations.
The fourth quarter opened with a TCP touchdown with 8:30 remaining and with the score 32-0 at that point they never looked back. They are a very good team and played the game the way it should be played. Besides not coming home with a victory and losing an uneven game statistically I think that we still met a number of our final game’s goals. We had set some goals prior to the game that were similar to the last 3 regular season games. Our number one goal was for all 11 guys on the field to give 100% from the snap of the ball to the whistle on every play for all 4 quarters. After spending some time on the game film I can easily say that all of our boys left 100% of everything they had on that field on Friday night from start to finish. That is very difficult to do and is reflective of who our boys are.
I would like to congratulate the 2016 Trojans on a very successful season. They can hold their heads high for all of their progress and achievements.
As always we had a large crowd follow us down to the Tri-Cities and cheer us on. We would like to thank our fan base and community for the support that they provided us this year. I think that we fed off the energy and really responded will to the overwhelming support.
I would also like to take this opportunity to congratulate the Manson High School girls volleyball team for their amazing efforts at district this weekend and for earning a State birth into the playoffs next weekend in Yakima. Great job, good luck, and Go Trojans!
