Tuesday was a favorable day for competition, cooler and a slight occasional drizzle. Chelan hosted numerous schools including Tonasket, Cashmere, Liberty Bell, and of course Manson. This year, Liberty Bell is very strong in both boys and girls, yet Manson is holding their own despite three missing varsity runners. Top finishers for the boys’ varsity was once again Connor Torgesen followed by Jose Vazquez. Torgesen placed 15th with a time of 15:08 for the 2.8 mile course. Libbey Ireland was the first girls for the girls’ varsity placing 14th with a time 18:14.

Manson brought 28 athletes including the talented Middle Schoolers lead by Joanne Fournier 8th grader, Cara Hutton, 7th grader, and Barbie Espinoza a 6th grader on the girls’ side and winning the boys race once again was Jesus Portillo. Strength is in numbers for cross country in Manson looks promising in the years to come with a strong showing in the middle school finishers.

This Saturday Manson travels to Leavenworth for the Leavenworth Invite. Hilly and very competitive racing will challenge the runners from nearby schools. Always a great venue for spectator as well as for the athletes. Races begin at 10am with the 6th Grade girl’s race.
