Acclaimed Cello/Bassoon Musical Duo to Perform at The Merc in Twisp

The duo of Rebecca Rust (cello) and Friedrich Edelmann (bassoon) will be performing chamber music at The Merc Playhouse in Twisp WA on Saturday September 9 at 7:00 p.m.

The event is open to the public and admission is free with a suggested donation of $20.00.

The program will include works by Beethoven, Bach, Rossini, as well as music composed especially for them.

The husband and wife team, based in Germany, have played together in duos, trios and larger musical groups for over three decades. This will be the second consecutive year in which they are performing in the Methow Valley. These gifted performers will also be offering Master Classes for cello and bassoon.

Internationally concertizing American cellist Rebecca Rust, student of Margaret Rowell, Bernard Greenhouse and M. Rostropovich and German bassoonist Friedrich Edelmann, principal bassoonist of the Munich Philharmonic Orchestra under the principal conductors Sergiu Celibidache and James Levine are concertizing and recording regularly as cello-bassoon DUO and together with piano as a TRIO in Europe, U.S.A. and Japan, including performances at the Imperial Palace of Japan in Tokyo in front of Their Majesties Emperor Akihito and Empress Michiko and private music-making with Empress Michiko on the piano. In the summer of 2017 they were participants in the international FORFEST Festival in the Czech Republic performing mostly music composed for them. In the fall 2017 a concert tour in Japan is planned, sponsored by Mercedes-Benz Japan.

Composers who have written and dedicated compositions (Duos & Trios): Otmar Mácha & Jan Novák (Czech Republic), Harald Genzmer (Germany), Max Stern (Israel), Jan Koetsier (The Netherlands), George Peter Tingley (U.S.A.). Rebecca Rust plays a Master Cello by William Forster of 1791 which was formerly owned and played by Prince Charles.

Edelmann is author of, “Memories of Maestro Sergiu Celibidache” about the Romanian conductor Sergiu Celibidache (1912-96).
