There are lots of reasons why it can be difficult to get rid of old clothing. Perhaps you have grown attached to your daughter’s skirt or your son’s shirt, outgrown, stained, and discarded, and not suitable for donation. Perhaps donations are not being accepted at your local 2nd hand store. Maybe it is a dress you’ve worn out and it’s such a shame to throw away perfectly good fabric. What about old sheets, curtains, tablecloths? I can’t bear to throw away fabric that has life in it still.
Solution? Cut the fabric into strips and make a rug out of it!
When you use fabric from loved ones’ clothing, the rug can become an heirloom.
But you aren’t limited to that! Nearly any fabric will work.
It’s best to know how to crochet any basic stitch before you come to class, but not necessary. We will go over single, double, and treble crochet stitches. We’ll talk about crocheting a circle, increases, and adjustments you’ll need to make to account for differences in fabric texture and thickness. We’ll also look at aesthetic options. For example, do you like a random look or would you prefer more symmetry in your rug? We’ll also work through issues like pooling of colors and the truth about randomizing.
Material Fee: $15 (included in class fee)
