[12/8/16] Chelan FFA Apple Judging

The Chelan FFA Apple Judging CDE team rolled in Wenatchee Wednesday December 7th to compete in the 83rd Annual Washington State FFA Association Apple Evaluation Career Development Event. The Chelan FFA has been very competitive in this event over the years winning the very first event back in 1933 and if history is right 37 other times including 6 in the last 14 years including last year. The event is held each December in conjunction with the Washington State Horticulture Association Annual Meetings and is sponsored by the Washington Apple Education Foundation.

This year’s team of Stephanie Olivera, Matthew Fitzpatrick, Aislinn Davis, Macaela LaPorte, and Carlos Vargas judging red and golden trays, identified blemishes, identified varieties, identified both beneficial and harmful insets, graded reds and goldens, determined fruit maturity using a pressure tests, estimated harvest time base on bloom date, and completed restricted use pesticide applicators test. When all the points had be tallied they brought home the 7th place plaque in a 23 team field. Stephanie Olivera was the 7th place individual out of 117 and the highest placing individual from North Central Washington. Matt Fitzpatrick and Macaela LaPorte also turned in good performances and are looking forward to preparing for next year.
