7/27/2010

Two buildings were heavily damaged in a fire yesterday in Bridgeport.

The fire started at 4:40 p.m. at the home of Martin French on Foster Creek Avenue.

According to Bridgeport Fire Department’s assistant chief, Steve Baughman, the fire also consumed a makeshift mechanic shop, a camp trailer and a shed.

No people or animals were hurt, but Baughman said all the structures were a total loss.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.

Foster Creek Avenue, which is the main street of downtown Bridgeport, was closed while firefighters worked to extinguish the flames.

Baughman said firefighters were on the scene until about 11 p.m.

Other assistance came from Douglas Okanogan Fire District 15, and Fire Districts 3 and 5 in Douglas County.
